Xandros buys Linspire
Lindows - the company that really pissed off Microsoft, remember them? The Linux based operating system was designed to make Linux life simpler (point and click, you know the rest). After a dispute with Microsoft over the Lindows name there decided to rename their OS to Linspire.
The company then went on to create CNR, a cross-distribution marketplace for easy-install Linux programs which is pretty impressive and much needed tool if Linux really wants to convert the world.
It would appear the Microsoft-agitating company is being sold to Xandros (yes, they created the OS you find on the Asus Eee PC). This presents the Linux world with a huge opportunity to leap forward but will it happen? Software distribution has always been an issue with Linux, this acquisition could see the start of reliable software distribution services that enticeĀ more users over to the way of Linux.
A final thought; many Windows fans will obviously have something to say about the statements above but the fact is that Linux netbooks sales are way ahead of XP netbooks. Vista is a resource hog that’s forcing the price of netbooks up through it’s hardware requirements. So where’s the logical solution? In my eyes, Linux. Flame on!
