Kohjinsha SC3 TabletThis UMPC/tablet has been kicking around for a while now but I decided to take a look as there’s been a lot of hype surrounding this device.

On first seeing the Kohjinsha SC3 you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s just a UMPC with tablet features. When you take a look under the bonnet you start to get a warm feeling. The first thing you’ll notice is the processor - Intel Atom Z530 running at 1.33 Ghz. Now I know some of you will be saying ’so what?’. Well, you have to remember that many of the UMPC’s on the market are running far slower single core CPU’s so this is a definite plus point for the SC3.

The SC3 also some with 1Gb of RAM and a 60 Gb disk - not huge but more than adequate for mobile users. There are two variants - SC3 (7 inch screen) measures 189 x 155 x 25-33mm, weight 820g. You also get WiFi and Bluetooth as standard. Higher spec models also feature GPS.

The SX3 (8.9 inch screen) is the more interesting of the two. This little beauty comes with has a Super DVD-Multi drive and dual cameras but is slightly larger at 225 x 185 x 22-33mm and 1,250g.

Both versions come with Vista pre-installed so it’ll be interesting to see how the machine performs. I’m hoping to get hold of one soon so I’ll give you a deeper review soon but if you’re looking for a first hand perspective right now you could try looking at this.
