Ubuntu Mobile Edition released

Written on June 25, 2008 – 2:22 am | by james |

Ubuntu Mobile Edition has been around for a little while now. The Embedded OS has been created in collaboration with Intel which gives a good indication of what we can expect to see when they release a Mobile Internet Device.

Interestingly, the ‘RC’ component has been dropped from the latest release of Ubuntu Mobile Edition. That said, I wouldn’t advise basic users to rush out and install Ubuntu Mobile on their UMPC’s; it’s still definitely for those who are happy hacking away to make the OS work.

Ubuntu Mobile Edition will follow the current 6 monthly release cycle so we can expect to see issues ironed out with each increment.

More news as we get it.

Ubuntu Mobile Edition currently has a number of target platforms including Samsung Q1 Ultra, Fujitsu U1010, HTC Shift and more. If you really do feel like giving this release a spin try this page as a starting point.
