SideKick coming to T-Mobile
Ok, UK readers don’t get too excited by the title of this post…just yet. The news is from the US market but if, as expected, the launch is a success I can see the same deal coming to the UK.
Let’s have a look at the Motorla Sidekick first. As you’ve already guessed, it’s a UMPC aimed at the entry level market. The next variant, Sidekick 2008, is a GSM device that only uses EDGE for data connectivity. Now the lack of 3G may be a problem for some people but if the buyers bang the desk loud enough I’m sure Motorola will add this capability. The Motorola Sidekick features 2.6 Wide-QVGA screen with a kick-flip design to open/close QWERTY keyboard. There’s no touchscreen so you’re stuck with using the keyboard and the directional pad.
A 2.0 megapixel camera will be built in, which will be able to take pictures, record and share video. Music and multimedia will be available through Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) - wireless easy listening!
The Sidekick 2008 will also feature removable skins. The addition of two separate skins means you can easily change the black shell that the Sidekick ships fitted with.
The Motorola Sidekick is due to hit the US market on July 30 with a price tag of about $200 with a contract.
I look forward to seeing if this comes to the UK as well.
