Access takes aim at the MID market

Written on August 5, 2008 – 12:37 pm | by james |

For those of you have heard of Access before; Access produce the Access Linux Platform (ALP). The ALP stack was originally designed as a general purpose platform for mobile devices. The last couple of years have seen Access marketing primarily in the mobile phone sector. Now the company now believes that they are ready for Mobile Internet Device prime time (they’ve already had significant success with the Amazon Kindle).

According to market research, you can expect to see the first ALP MIDs arriving sometime this year, with around 90 million units shipping by 2012 - all sounds very optimistic.

An interesting sidenote; Access have just announced that ALP has gained support for internet based widgets. Now there’s something that might attract a little more attention in the MID sector.
