Asus R50a first view

R50aAlthough Asus builds PC’s and laptop their name is synonymous with the UMPC sector; namely the Eee PC.

Well, it looks like Asus are continuing their move on the ultra mobile sector with a new tablet device, the R50a.

We haven’t managed to get hold of one just yet but we do have some details of this device:

  • Silverthorne Z520 1.33Ghz CPU
  • Windows Vista Ultimate
  • 1GB DDR2 memory
  • 5.6″ active TFT screen (1024 x 600 pixels)
  • 2 Mpxs camera
  • 1 x Micro SD slot
  • SSD HDD - 32Gb, 16Gb or 8Gb
  • Bluetooth 2.0, integrated USB 802.11 b/g, Sierra 3G, SIM card
  • GPS with builtin RF connector for external antenna
  • 199mm x 97mm x 28.4mm, weight 520g

A really nice feature on the R50a is the ability to fit an optional DVB-T mini-card and external TV anatenna - movies on the move.

The device is currently going through FCC testing in the US but we don’t have information on UK availability - we’ll let you know more soon.
