iPhone OS 3.0 Summer launch.

And it’s free - if you own an iPhone otherwise you’ll have to stump up $9.95 if you’re an iPod Touch owner. So, what are you going to get? Here’s a rundown:

Here’s just of a few of thing that you can expect to see when iPhone OS 3.0 arrives this summer:

  • Search your iPhone
  • Cut, copy, and paste
  • Send photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS (not available on original iPhone)
  • Read and compose email and text messages in landscape

..then there’s multi-player gaming, in-game chat features, a new API for streaming audio and video. In all, there about 100 new features availabe in the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 plus a new SDK so everyday users and developers alike should be kept happy.

Admittedly, some of these features have been a long time coming. Take the copy and paste functionality - it’s a capability that, as everyday computers know, we simply take for granted but, according to Apple, it’s not that simple. Apparently, a number of security concerns have impeded the implementation of c&p!

On the whole, OS 3.0 will probably be a massive hit and should go a long way towards silencing some of the long running gripes that users have had with the handset. There will inevitably be a hardcore set of owners demanding more, but isn’t that always the case? Now let’s see if Apple can get this iPhone/iPod Touch update out of the door without it breaking the OS!
